10th Conference

Honorable Delegates, Esteemed MUN Directors,

It is with great honour and pleasure that we, the Secretariat of the 10th annual Costeas-Geitonas School Model United Nations Conference, cordially invite you to this year’s annual session of CGSMUNto be held from December 11th to December 13th, 2015 on the premises of CosteasGeitonas School in Athens, Greece.

Following the success of last year’s conference and being a THIMUN affiliated conference since 2012, we will continue with our reforms from last year and once again host an array of committees including our 4 General Assembly Committees (Disarmament and International Security, Economic and Financial, Social Cultural and Humanitarian and Special Political and Decolonization) and 6 Specialized Agencies (Security Council, International Court of Justice, Economic and Social Council, Environmental Commission, Youth Assembly and Special Conference on Global Reform and Ethics) where even the most demanding delegate will have an opportunity to engage in challenging and significant deliberation and debate.

The CGSMUN, being committed to provide the delegates with the best of experiences, has always offered opportunities to students all over the world to engage in challenging debates over historical and contemporary international issues.  This year’s diverse range of topics covers some of the most pressing issues such as combating infectious diseases and promoting the integration of ethnic and religious minorities into society. In addition, the topics on this years’ agenda are meant to challenge the status quo of international diplomacy, with topics such as preventing the imposition of policies on former colonized states and the question of creating a standing United Nations Army.

We live in a time of change, characterized by political upheaval, environmental destruction and rapid technological advancements. All this change bears with it great challenges and great responsibility for our generation to carry. However, change should not just happen for the sake of change and should not be left unchecked.  Bearing all this in mind, the 10th CGSMUN will be on Global Reform and Ethics, reflecting our ever changing world and calling for our ethical judgement to take a role in our decisions. The delegates will deliberate to implement measures to protect individual privacy in the digital era, reduce interstate conflict through the promotion of shared values and common security strategies and consider ethics in the fields of medicine and consumer and corporate behavior.

In our ever changing world, the increasing importance for international cooperation and the promotion of a unified and peaceful world is more than evident.  Our MUN sessions lay the foundation for students to have a chance to promote their skills and talents through public speaking, writing, and negotiating in an environment similar to the diplomatic practices used during United Nations deliberations.  We strive to ask challenging questions and provoke serious discussions and in the end enhance the skills required to reach compromises and build a consensus.  Our secretariat members serve as mentors so that all participants are guided through the collaborative processes of diplomacy and critical thinking and are prepared to be competent delegates for future conferences and active citizens for tomorrow’s societies.

Setting a tradition for a whole decade, CGSMUN has come to celebrate its 10th annual session. In recent years, our conference has significantly grown in size, hosting more than 450 delegates from all around the globe. We, the Secretariat and the Organizing Committee, are honored and proud to continue with the traditions of ourpredecessors and are determined to make this conference a great success.

On behalf of the entire CGSMUN staff, Secretariat and Organizing Team we look forward to meeting you in December during a conference where we can all engage in meaningful dialogue, get to know new people, and create lasting memories and friendships.
