Meet the Secretariat

Dear MUN Directors, Advisors, Participants ,

On behalf of the Secretariat it is our utmost honour to cordially invite you to the 20th Costeas-Geitonas School Model United Nations (CGSMUN) Conference, to be held from Friday the 12th to Sunday 14th of December, in the city of Athens, Greece. This year the theme of our conference is to be “Knowledge and Understanding: Challenging what we think we know”.

Today’s world consists of multifaceted societies and cultures that tend to clash with the fast paces of everyday life. The information that is produced and handled can determine the outcome of political discussions, set the pace of progress on global affairs as well as shape a modern society driven by equity, peace and prosperity. This year’s theme invites participants to take a step back, delve into the world of research and truly challenge previous knowledge and what is taken for granted. This way we can evolve from mere spectators of the global developments to becoming active catalysts for creating a better tomorrow. In this process, it is crucial that we render ourselves open to different perspectives while allowing fruitful dialogue to form.

However, should we want this to be marked with success, we must collaborate with the United Nations, along with other Intergovernmental Organizations in order to foster change, progress and betterment while taking responsibility and accountability for the decisions that set the pillars for progress and development. With the deadline of the 2030 Sustainability Agenda being only five years away, it is pivotal for us to regroup, start questioning past and present measures and overall fixate on using our abilities and voices to call for progress amongst the international community.

Model UN conferences provide the youth with an opportunity to engage in dialogue in order to advocate for beliefs and ideals while stepping into the role of skilled diplomats tasked with shaping the course of progress in the world today. With it being 20 years since the first iteration of CGSMUN, we present to you 20 committees that delve into the world of politics, economics, humanitarian issues, technological advancements, the environment and the justice system, in which participants are called to harness their skills, test their limits and overcome global issues that stake the international community and world today.

We therefore challenge you to take advantage of the material the conference offers, question what you think you know, fight what you find to be wrong or unjust and use the powerful tool that is your voice.

The Secretary General,
Protonotariou Elena
The President of the General Assembly,
Georgantzis Theodora
Elena Protonotariou (CGS)
Secretary General

My name is Elena Protonotariou and I’m currently attending the twelfth grade of Costeas-Geitonas School. This year I have the utmost honour and pleasure to serve as the Secretary General of the 20th session of CGSMUN.

Personally, I’ve been engaged with MUN for approximately five years and throughout this time I have witnessed its impact on both myself and everyone around me. Introducing us to the world of politics, teaching us how to defend our thesis as well as promoting values and ideals that are part of a somewhat brighter future, MUN is undoubtedly a privilege to have experienced.

For me it has played I vital role in shaping my identity while it has turned me into an open minded critical thinker who can participate in fruitful dialogue. I sincerely hope that this year’s conference inspires and touches many more participants in the same way that it has done for me throughout all this years.

I therefore invite you to join this beautiful family and broaden your horizons with such an enriching experience. I look forward to meeting you all in December!

Lenio Bitsopoulou (ISA)
Deputy Secretary General

My name is Lenio Bitsopoulou and I am a grade 11 student at the International School of Athens. This year, I have the utmost honour of serving as the Deputy Secretary General of CGSMUN.

Around 2 and half years ago, when I decided to attend CGSMUN as a delegate of the Youth Assembly, I never imagined that this is the position i’d be in one day. However, after a lot of gratitude and hard word, I am pleased to serve in a position like this one.

It is a challenge to participate in an MUN conference, yet, we all still do it. It has a special place in our hearts by changing our world view, our mindset, and even our lives at times. We all want to see a better world, and above all, want to be the one who inflicts this positive change in a just and positive world.

I hope that, after the 20th session of CGSMUN, we are all a step closer to achieving the world we all dream of. I look forward to seeing you all in December!

Dimitris Hargitt (CGS)
Deputy Secretary General

My name is Dimitris Hargitt, and I am delighted to have the honor to serve as one of the Deputy Secretaries General in the 20th session of CGSMUN. I am an IB student in the CGS class of 2026, and I have a close connection with MUN. I have been participating in conferences since they were held online due to COVID, while aiming to improve my public speaking skills and political knowledge. However, conference by conference, I have learned the extent of the true value of MUN. Beyond just a tool for discovering the world of diplomacy, MUN is a space for social connections and self-discovery. It is my firm belief that MUN can hold a unique value for every participant.

As such, I am thrilled to see you all in December.

Theodora Georgantzis (Ekpaideftiki Anagennisi)
President of the General Assembly

My name is Theodora Georgantzis, I am a 12th grade student at Ekpaideftiki Anagennisi. I am very honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve as the President of the General Assembly at the 20th CGSMUN.

For the last five years, MUN has lead me down multiple different paths. From attending nearly twenty conferences, to discovering my passion for public speaking and international relations, to representing NGOs at UN conferences abroad.

I sincerely hope that the 20th session of CGSMUN Leads you down a similar road, extending your horizon, values and knowledge.

I look forward to meeting everybody in December!

John Athanasiadis (Pierce-ACG)
Deputy President of the General Assembly

My name is John Athanasiadis, an upcoming IB2 student at Pierce-ACG. In the 20th CGSMUN, I have the utmost honor of serving as the Deputy President of the General Assembly.

Three years ago, when I started doing MUN, becoming a Secretariat member in one of the largest conferences in Greece seemed too far—a mere idea and a wish that I believed would never be fulfilled. However, after countless conferences, resolutions, and hours dedicated to MUN, I am pleased to have exceeded my old self’s expectations.

These years in MUN have also been an important addition to my life. Learning how to debate topics in a diplomatic way is just one of the reasons why. However, the friends you make, the memories, and the experiences you take away from each conference are what have made MUN great for me.

Thus, my goal for the 20th CGSMUN is to pass these values on to you, delegates. It is not just the destination you want to reach that makes an experience special—it is the whole journey until you get there. The sky is the limit.
I promise to do everything I can to make this experience as memorable as previous CGSMUN conferences have been for me. I’m looking forward to meeting you all at our conference in December!
