Emmanouela Doussi is Professor of International Institutions at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Director of the postgraduate program on Southeast European Studies: Politics, History and Economics, Director of the Institute of European Integration and Policy and UNESCO Chairholder on Climate Diplomacy. She has studied political science and law at the University of Athens and at the Sorbonne in Paris (Paris I). After a first Master’s in Public International Law, she completed a second one in Environmental Law and a PhD in International Law.
She has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Bourgogne, Grenoble-Alpes and Aix-Marseille, and a visiting fellow at the University of Geneva and the European University Institute in Florence. She was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley in 2022, and a member of the ILA Committee on the role of international law in sustainable management of natural resources and the Greek National Committee for Adaptation on Climate Change. She is currently a Senior Policy Advisor at ELIAMEP and Head of its Climate and Sustainability Programme. She has published alone or in collaboration with other authors ten books and several articles in peer-reviewed international journals. She has coordinated/participated in research and educational projects funded by the EU or other authorities and, currently, and she is the coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module on EU Climate Policy and Diplomacy in Southeast Europe. Her research interests include international and European environmental policy & law, the role of international institutions in sustainable development, climate diplomacy, including EU climate diplomacy, and the impact of climate change on human mobility. She was awarded the Natural Resources Legal Specialist 2021 Award by the Centre for International Sustainable Law (CISDL). Since 2022 she has been a Member of the Board of Governors of the CISDL.
